Meeting Luis Fercán in a bar in Santiago de Compostela: How Music Brings People Together
Sometimes you go out to see one artist and end up discovering an entirely new musical connection.
That happened to me on a night out in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. I had gone to see Ferni Outdoor, but the evening took an unexpected turn when I met Galician singer-songwriter Luis Fercán at Casa das Crechas, one of Santiago’s well-known cultural and music venues.
A gin and tonic, a conversation about music and a few familiar connections later, I had discovered an artist whose music I wanted to hear more of.
And that’s one of the things I love about music: you never know where it will take you or who you will meet along the way.
Casa das Crechas, Santiago
Casa das Crechas was the perfect setting for the encounter. Situated in Santiago’s historic centre, it has been a meeting place for music, Galician culture and people for decades.
I was there because of Ferni Outdoor, but ended up meeting Luis and discovering another connection through Jorge Lloris and Querido Agencia.
One night out had suddenly connected several parts of the independent music world.
Luis Fercán
Luis Fercán is a singer-songwriter from Santiago who began his solo career in 2016 and has since built an audience well beyond Galicia, performing across Spain and internationally.
His music is personal, intimate and deeply rooted in songwriting — exactly the kind of music that feels at home in a place like Casa das Crechas.
When you meet an artist casually in a bar, however, the career statistics don’t really matter.
It’s the music and the conversation that stay with you.

The connections behind the music
What made the evening memorable was that Luis wasn’t the only connection.
There was Ferni Outdoor, who brought me there in the first place, Jorge Lloris and Querido Agencia, and the wider network of musicians, artists and people working around them.
That’s what makes independent music so exciting.
Behind every artist is a network of people — musicians, managers, producers, venues, promoters and audiences. One connection can lead to another, sometimes across countries.
From Santiago to Amsterdam
That night also made me think about what we are building at 704 Records in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is an international city with musicians from all over the world, including a growing community of Spanish and Spanish-speaking artists.
We are particularly interested in working with independent musicians and singer-songwriters who have their own sound, language and story.
Whether you’re a Spanish artist living in Amsterdam, a Galician songwriter in the Netherlands, or simply an independent musician looking for the next step, your identity is part of what makes your music interesting.
Sometimes all you need is the right connection.
Music brings people together
Looking back, the best part of that night wasn’t simply meeting Luis Fercán.
It was the chain of connections:
Ferni Outdoor → Casa das Crechas → Luis Fercán → Jorge Lloris → Querido Agencia → Amsterdam.
That’s music.
It brings people together in unexpected places.
And sometimes one night, one conversation and one song are enough to start something new.
Are you a singer-songwriter or independent artist based in Amsterdam or the Netherlands? We’d love to hear what you’re working on.
